Job Description

About “Speakers for Schools”

Few charities generate more excitement and inspiration than Speakers for Schools. Whether or not we’ve organised Naomi Campbell to share the highs and lows of her journey with 150 young people from Elmgreen School, or 15 young people to participate in work experience at the Bank of England, every day brings laughter, excitement and that warm feeling that you did something good.

Founded by ITV Political Editor Robert Peston (Trustee), and chaired by Andrew Law (Caxton Associates), Speakers for Schools was created to help level the playing field for UK state schools and their students by giving them the same access to the UK’s leading figures from politics, business, and sport as enjoyed by private schools.

Bill Gates, Baroness (Martha) Lane Fox, Professor Brian Cox, David Dein, David Cameron, Natalie Bennett, Philip Hammond, Naomi Campbell and over a thousand other influential and inspirational people have been kind enough to volunteer their time to speak with Speakers for Schools. Three-quarters of a million Young People have attended a Speakers for Schools talk.

More recently, we launched our S4SNextGen service. S4SNextGen works with our outstanding network of speakers and partner employers, to offer young people, work experience opportunities which would usually be out of reach to them. We have now offered more than two thousand work experience placements at employers such as the Bank of England, M&C Saatchi, Disney, Vogue, BA, Cisco and others.

Speakers for Schools is entering a new and exciting phase in its journey. Having recently appointed its new CEO Jason Elsom, and thanks to the continued and extended generosity of the Law Family Charitable FoundationSpeakers for Schools will accelerate its growth to support more young people by initially growing its team from eight to thirteen before the end of 2019, with additional growth planned throughout 2020.

Core Purpose and Key Responsibilities

You will have the enviable position of working with our CEO and wider team, to establish a fundraising programme, where none currently exists. This means that you will not inherit an outdated onion-layered programme, installed by someone who came before you.

We expect out-of-the-box thinking and entrepreneurial strategies, built on the foundation of your experiences and ideas which you may not have previously been able to action. Although our current and enlarged team are supported by one donor, you will play a key role in helping us scale, by delivering restricted and unrestricted funding to 6/7 figures. You will initially be responsible for a team of one (yet to be appointed) Senior Fundraising Executive, which we can grow with your success. The rest we will write together.

To Apply
If selected, you will normally be interviewed within seven days of application.  The role will close when we find an outstanding candidate to join us.  As such, there is no specific closing date.  Forward a CV and a covering letter / video / presentation on what you feel makes you our new Director of Fundraising. Please note if you do not provide a covering letter or similar, your application will not be considered.

Speakers for Schools is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to providing equality of opportunities to all employees and applicants. Speakers for Schools is committed to treating all employees and applicants in the same manner irrespective of gender, marital status, family status, religious belief and/or political opinion, disability, age, race and/or ethnic origin and sexual orientation.
